Roots Run Deep.

This is our life, and we wouldn’t change it for anything. Nearly 100 years of ranching, six generations, one family, one mountain.

Our Story

From Our Family To Yours

L2 Ranch is located in Oakley, Utah at the base of the Uinta Mountains. In the early 1900s, the L2 brand was government-appointed to the first generation of our family’s cattle ranch. Nearly 100 years and six generations later, the backbone of the operation remains the same.

In 2020, Clif and Chelsey Leavitt transitioned the ranch from a traditional cow/calf operation to a direct-to-consumer model — sharing the same beef they had been feeding their own family for generations with their community. “We had this great product we had been feeding our family since the beginning, and we wanted to start sharing it.”

Our herd contains genetics from our grandparents’ herd, dating back over 100 years. We’ve spent a century fine-tuning those genetics to produce the highest quality, best-tasting grass-fed beef possible.

We manage the entire lifecycle of every animal — from birth under the windbreak benches of Oakley to summer grazing above 8,000 ft in the Uinta-Wasatch National Forest, to humane harvest at our local USDA-inspected facility.

The L2 Brand Is Born

Passed Down Through the Family

The same grazing permit, the same mountain, the same values — passed from generation to generation. The cows are wintered near the Weber River and graze Weber Canyon in the summer, just as they always have.

How We Ranch

Our Practices

These are not marketing claims. They are operational commitments we hold ourselves to every single day on the ranch.

100% Grass-Fed & Finished

Cattle eat only grass, hay, and forage their entire lives. No grain at any stage. No feedlot finishing. The cattle are moved across pastures to manage land health.

No Hormones. No Antibiotics.

We never administer growth hormones. Antibiotics are not used routinely and only administered therapeutically when medically necessary for an animal's welfare.

Mountain Pasture Raised

Cattle spend summers grazing the Uinta-Wasatch National Forest at high elevation. The pasture quality, altitude, and forage diversity is what gives our beef its distinctive character.

USDA-Certified Processing

Every animal is processed at a local USDA-certified facility in Utah. Inspection, handling, and traceability standards are maintained throughout. Nothing cuts corners here.

Small-Batch Production

We process in small batches to maintain quality and traceability. This also means our dog organ supplement is hand-prepared fresh in Oakley, Utah from the same herd.

Full-Cycle Family Operation

From breeding to delivery, every step is controlled by our family. We know every animal. We manage the land. There is no third-party operation we hand off to and hope for the best.

The Land

The Uinta Mountains, Utah

The Uinta Range is the only major mountain range in the contiguous United States that runs east–west. It rises to over 13,000 feet, and its high-altitude meadows produce some of the richest native forage available to rangeland cattle anywhere in the West.

Our family has grazed the Uinta-Wasatch National Forest under the same permit since 1927. The land is managed carefully — we practice rotational grazing to prevent overgrazing and preserve long-term pasture quality.

"I have always been drawn to the mountains. When presented with the option to check on cattle or spend my summer days elsewhere, I always chose the mountains. I recognized early on that if I tended to the cattle, I got to be on a horse all day long, living that cowboy lifestyle — and I really enjoy that."
— Clif Leavitt, L2 Ranch
"This magical, marvelous food on our plate … has a story to tell. It has a journey. It leaves a footprint. It leaves a legacy."
— Joel Salatin, Polyface Farm
